Application engineering

Application engineering constitutes an important interface in collaboration with the customer. It is here that our comprehensive know-how in all matters grinding and polishing pays off. The tasks involved are highly complex in nature and range across both process-maintenance and results control of a calculation of profitability. The aim of application engineering is the maintenance of the specifications from the process study. We use the defined boundary samples to test both quality and cycle time.

The central task of this department is maintaining constant customer contact so as to ensure constant company awareness of customer specifications and their implementation. Application engineering co-ordinates the assembly of all components, assembly groups, machines and the wide variety of feeding systems for diverse special devices as well as the consolidation of industrial robots, individual plant and peripheral units into a complete system. They control the commissioning process (in accordance with machine directive); the first use of the machines and plant.

It is this stage which shows the degree to which quality and cycle time specifications have been complied with. During subsequent process programming, the results gathered are subject to constant comparison with the boundary samples.

The customer compares the data collected within the scope of the process study with the results gathered upon machine activation within the scope of the final customer acceptance test performed in-house at SHL. Following clearance, the unit is dismantled and re-built on-site at the customer premises where the process is repeated. The customer then conducts the final on-site customer acceptance test.

SHL follows the principle that the team conducting the installation is also responsible for the subsequent after-sales service. This team is familiar with all aspects of the machine and is in a position to react with speed and precision.
